Maurizio Sarri believes Chelsea 2-2 draw with Manchester United can act as a valuable learning tool as he continues to instil his ideas and tactics into this Chelsea squad...

By Chelsea FC;

Our head coach is in no doubt that for an hour of Saturday’s match, we were looking likely victors, but it was what happened after the Red Devils equalised that he feels the players need to improve on.

‘I think we could have won the game because after 60 minutes we were completely in control of the match,’ he said. ‘Then suddenly, after they got back to 1-1, we lost control of the match because we stopped playing our football and we started to play the long ball.

‘We are not organised for playing this kind of football. We need to play short passes. So I need to study this match very well, because in this match we can learn a lot.’

Sarri added that he has seen similar periods in previous fixtures where we have not necessarily been punished and this is why he feels there is plenty of room for improvement, despite the fact he became the first Blues boss to go nine Premier League unbeaten at the start of his career with the club.

‘Of course, if you play against Liverpool or Manchester United and you make a mistake on the pitch, it is clear, but I think we have made the same kind of mistakes in other matches,’ he explained. ‘If you win 3-0, the mistake on the pitch wasn’t clear, but I have said we need to improve when I have seen something similar in other matches.

‘It’s normal when you play against a very strong team. If you start to play a physical match, of course Manchester United is better than us. But for 60 minutes we played our football with short passes at high speed and we were easily in control of the match.’
