Eintracht Frankfurt beat Bayern Munich 3-1 in an eventful German Cup final to prevent them winning double. Niko Kovac led Frankfurt to win against man he will replace at Bayern Munich next year, Jupp Heynckes. An Ante Rebic double either side of Robert Lewandowski's equaliser gave Frankfurt the advantage. Frankfurt's second and third goals came largely thanks to the help of VAR as drama engulfed cup final.
Eintracht Frankfurt pulled off a shock win against Bayern Munich to lift the German Cup on Saturday night, ironically under the management of Bayern's next boss, Niko Kovac.
VAR will dominate the headlines after referee Felix Zwayer had to review two decisive decisions in the final ten minutes of the match, both of which went in Frankfurt's favour and ultimately handed them a memorable win.
The defeat will be hard to take for Jupp Heynckes who took charge of his final game. The German came out of retirement in October and previously led Bayern to the treble in 2013, but this time around his side could only take one trophy - a sixth consecutive Bundesliga.

Bayern came close to taking the lead at the start of the match when Robert Lewandowski's free-kick thundered against the crossbar. But it was Frankfurt who took the initiative much to Bayern Munich's surprise, when Ante Rebic put the underdogs up in the 11th minute.
The Bundesliga champions squandered a hatful of chances throughout the first half but Lewandowski was able to equalise early on in the second, as he slid in to finish off Joshua Kimmich's cutback in the 53rd minute.
The game was slowing as it progressed with neither side willing to take a risk. That was until drama ensued in the closing stages.
It all began when Mats Hummels rattled the bar once more for Bayern in the 80th minute as they produced one of their best chances of the match and continued to press for a winner.
With the clock running down, the game erupted into life. Heynckes' men pushed further forward and dominated possession in the opposition's half.
But it was Frankfurt, against the run of play, who sprung a counter-attack and stole the lead. Croatian Rebic was able to claim his second of the night when he slotted it past Sven Ulreich, while Manuel Neuer watched on from the bench.
This was the moment that Mijat Gacinovic found himself in front of an open goal and was able to make it 3-1 and seal win

Amid Frankfurt's celebrations, the referee decided to consult VAR after the ball clearly hit Kevin Prince-Boateng on the arm in the build up to the goal.
He ran over to the touchline to review the replay's himself but deemed it was accidental and awarded the goal to give Frankfurt a 2-1 lead as they closed in on their first cup win in 30 years.
Bayern continued to push for an equaliser and keep their hopes of a double alive and in the dying minutes of the match they threw goalkeeper, Ulreich, up for a corner.
As Frankfurt scrambled to get the ball clear, Prince-Boateng was at the centre of it all again.
He appeared to strike Javi Martinez instead of the ball and the referee was once again forced into reviewing the decision with the help of the Video Assistant Referee.
With stoppage-time running out, the referee had a big decision to make. After reviewing the replay several times himself on the touchline once more, he ran back and pointed for a corner.
Prince-Boateng had the VAR rule in his favour once more, much to Bayern's dismay.

From the resulting corner, with Ulreich up in attack, the ball broke for Frankfurt who were able to spring another counter-attack. This time Mijat Gacinovic was throw on goal, albeit 90 yards away.
He ran the length of the pitch and passed it into the empty net before running into the crowd as the celebrations began.
Frankfurt sealed their first cup victory in 30 years with the 3-1 win against the dominant force of Bayern Munich. It was made even sweeter by the fact they lost in the final last year to Borussia Dortmund.
It was not the way Jupp Heynckes wanted to end his career, but Nico Kovac will have certainly shown Bayern Munich fans what he is capable of. Whether they will be grateful for that at this moment, is a different matter.
